Dalit Men Brutally Attacked in Telangana – Shocking Video Emerges
A horrifying incident in the Mancherial district of Telangana has sent shockwaves across the nation. A Dalit man and his friend were allegedly tied upside down and brutally beaten up in a cattle shed, all on suspicion of stealing a goat and an iron pipe from their employer’s farm. The shocking video of this inhumane act went viral on social media, leading to the arrest of four accused individuals. They are facing charges of attempted murder and committing atrocities against a Scheduled Caste community.
The Gruesome Incident
“A man and his family members, along with another person working with them, allegedly hung the Dalit person upside down in the cattle shed, hit him with a stick, and even lit a fire on the floor. His friend suffered a similar fate,”
The incident unfolded on September 1 when the victims found themselves hung upside down with a fire raging beneath them, while they endured merciless thrashing. Fortunately, the Dalit man’s relatives intervened and rescued them, subsequently providing the necessary medical treatment for their injuries. It remains unclear who recorded the video of this horrific incident.
Legal Action and Charges
The Dalit man’s aunt filed a formal complaint with the police, alleging that her relative had been subjected to torture by the four individuals. Based on her complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, in addition to IPC sections 342 (wrongful confinement) and 307 (attempt to murder).
As the investigation progressed, law enforcement arrested four individuals, including the man, his wife, their son, and another person involved in the incident, according to a senior police official.
The Motive Behind the Brutality
It was revealed that the accused individuals suspected the Dalit man’s involvement in the theft of one of their goats a few days prior to the incident. Furthermore, they reported the theft of an iron pipe the previous week, which only heightened their suspicions. Believing the Dalit man and his friend were responsible, they brought them to the cattle shed and subjected them to the gruesome ordeal.
Outrage and Questions
Reacting to this brutal incident, Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr. BR Ambedkar and chief of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, expressed his horror on social media. He called the incident “absolutely barbaric” and raised questions about the governance of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
“Absolutely barbaric. I am horrified by the sheer cruelty of this caste atrocity. Are we not thought of as human? What’s happening in your state, @TelanganaCMO? A total of 12,643 Dalit atrocities happened in Telangana under your tenure (NCRB 2014 to 2021).”
A Similar Incident in Maharashtra
This shocking incident in Telangana comes in the wake of another distressing event where four Dalit men were allegedly hanged upside down from a tree and brutally beaten with sticks by six individuals. This incident occurred in a village in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district and was driven by suspicions of goat and pigeon theft. A video of the incident circulated on social media, leading to one arrest by the police, while five others remain at large.
Conclusion
The gruesome attack on the Dalit men in Telangana has once again highlighted the deep-seated issues of caste-based violence and discrimination in India. It serves as a grim reminder that there is much work to be done to ensure the safety and dignity of marginalized communities. The swift action by law enforcement in arresting the accused is a positive step, but it is essential for society as a whole to address the root causes of such atrocities and work towards a more inclusive and just future.
