Controversy Surrounding Shubh’s Mumbai Concert

Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubhneet Singh, widely recognized as Shubh, is currently embroiled in a controversy as he prepares for his upcoming concert in Mumbai. Allegations of supporting separatist Khalistani elements have put him in the spotlight, drawing criticism from various quarters, including members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

Shubh’s Mumbai Concert Dates

Shubh is scheduled to grace the stage in Mumbai from September 23 to 25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event, which is set to take place aboard the Cordelia Cruise. Additionally, the artist has an extensive three-month-long tour planned across India, featuring performances in several other major cities, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.

Reasons for the Backlash

The controversy surrounding Shubh stems from allegations made by BJYM members who tore down his posters and accused the singer of endorsing Khalistani separatist elements. Adding fuel to the fire, a social media post by Shubh displaying a distorted map of India, which notably omitted Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, went viral and garnered widespread disappointment.

According to reports from Hindustan Times, this viral post was shared by Shubh during a period when the Punjab Police was actively pursuing a fugitive named Amritpal Singh. The post raised concerns and further fueled the allegations against the singer.

BJYM President Tajinder Singh Tiwana expressed his stance on the matter, stating, “There is no space for Khalistanis who are the enemy of the integrity and unity of India. We won’t allow Canadian singer Shubh to perform in the auspicious land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mumbai. If no proper action is taken, then the organizers will have to face our opposition.”

BJYM has gone a step further by demanding the cancellation of Shubh’s scheduled shows in India, intensifying the controversy surrounding the artist.

Impact on Shubh’s Social Media Presence

Shubh’s popularity extends beyond his music, with songs like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheaques” enjoying widespread acclaim not only in India but also across the globe. However, the controversy has had repercussions on his social media following.

Notably, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, who was seen grooving to one of Shubh’s songs in a viral video, unfollowed the singer on social media. Additionally, cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have also reportedly unfollowed Shubh on various social media platforms. It remains uncertain whether these cricketers unfollowed Shubh as a direct response to the controversy surrounding him.

Conclusion

As the controversy surrounding Shubh continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how it will impact his concert in Mumbai and his broader career. The allegations of supporting Khalistani elements have placed the singer in a challenging position, with both fans and critics closely watching the developments in this ongoing controversy.
