In 1997, while filming “Yes Boss” under director Aziz Mirza, Shah Rukh Khan shot the popular song “Chaand Taare” right outside the property that would eventually become his. At the time, the mansion was owned by the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust. During a walk with his wife, Gauri, Shah Rukh reportedly pointed to the house and promised her that one day, it would be theirs. Mirza, in an interview with Radio Nasha, recalled those days, saying, “Shah Rukh and Gauri were full of dreams back then. They used to walk by the house, and I remember him saying that he would buy it someday.”
Mannat’s Transformation into a Symbol of Success
Fast forward to the present, and that dream has come true. Shah Rukh did indeed purchase the house, overcoming several challenges, including legal hurdles and disputes with neighboring properties. The mansion, originally named Jannat (meaning “paradise”), was renamed Mannat in 2005, reflecting the heartfelt wish that turned into reality. Today, the property is valued at over ₹200 crore, cementing its place as one of Mumbai’s most famous landmarks.
Recent Renovations and Relocation
Recently, the Khan family temporarily vacated Mannat to make way for extensive renovations. They’ve moved to a luxury apartment complex in Bandra, leasing two duplex apartments from film producer Vashu Bhagnani. With a hefty rent of ₹24 lakh per month, these apartments cost the family ₹2.9 crore annually, occupying four floors of the complex. This move has been a temporary arrangement while the iconic residence undergoes major upgrades.
