Gujarat Titans have taken a hit to their overseas lineup, with New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips flying back home after picking up a groin injury during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Injury Ends Phillips’ IPL 2025 Run Before It Begins

Phillips, who hadn’t yet made his debut for GT this season, was fielding as a substitute during the April 6 match when he suffered the injury. The incident occurred in the final over of the powerplay, as he chased down a softly struck ball at point. While attempting to return the ball, he appeared to overextend and collapsed in visible discomfort.

GT’s physio rushed onto the field, and after a lengthy pause, Phillips was helped off by a teammate. The franchise later confirmed his departure, wishing him a swift recovery.

GT’s Overseas Puzzle Grows Tricky

Phillips was acquired at the 2024 auction for his base price of ₹2 crore, but his IPL 2025 campaign has ended without a single appearance. Gujarat Titans have yet to announce a replacement for the Kiwi cricketer.

Meanwhile, the team is already without pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada, who returned to South Africa for personal reasons. With two overseas players now unavailable, GT will rely on the remaining international options — Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Gerald Coetzee, Rashid Khan, and Karim Janat — to maintain their momentum.

GT Still on Top Despite Setbacks

Despite the challenges, GT, led by Shubman Gill, remain in strong form with four wins from five matches. They currently sit at the top of the IPL 2025 points table.

The Titans next face off against Lucknow Super Giants at BRSABV Ekana Stadium on Saturday. Following that, they return to their home ground in Ahmedabad to take on Delhi Capitals on April 19.
