Cha Eun Woo, the multi-talented K-pop star and actor known for his roles in popular dramas like True Beauty and Island, is preparing to begin his mandatory military service. As per recent updates, the 28-year-old ASTRO member is expected to enlist in July 2025, pending results from his application to join the Army’s military band.

Military Enlistment and Interview Process

According to an official statement from his agency, Fantagio, Cha Eun Woo has completed an interview with the military band unit at the Seoul National Cemetery, under the Ministry of National Defence. The application window for this prestigious unit was open from March to April 2025, with interviews held on May 9. Results will be announced on May 29.

If selected, Cha will begin his 18-month service later this summer, making him the second member of ASTRO to enlist, following MJ’s discharge in November 2023. Fans can expect him to be discharged by early 2027. The military band is a popular choice among entertainers, allowing them to serve while continuing to showcase their musical talents in a disciplined setting.

Upcoming Projects Before Enlistment

Despite the looming enlistment, Cha Eun Woo remains busy with a number of projects. He is currently working on Netflix’s upcoming fantasy drama The Wonderfools, where he plays the character Lee Woon Jung. The series revolves around individuals who acquire supernatural powers and must face off against a rising evil force.

Cha is also slated to appear in the movie First Ride, alongside Kang Ha Neul and Kim Young Kwang. In the film, he plays Yeon Min, one of three friends who embark on an overseas trip. The movie is set for release in 2026, likely after Cha completes his military duties.

Music and Legacy

Beyond acting, Cha Eun Woo has continued to contribute to the K-pop world. He recently participated in a touching tribute song, “Memory of the Moon,” dedicated to late ASTRO member Moonbin, who passed away in April 2023. The song was a collaborative effort, featuring contributions from 22 fellow K-pop artists.

Cha Eun Woo’s journey into military service marks a significant chapter in his career. With major acting roles and heartfelt musical releases, he leaves fans with plenty to look forward to—even during his absence from the spotlight.
