Australia’s Sean Abbott pulled off a stunning catch during the third one-day international of the five-match series at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Tuesday. The Aussie took the athletic catch in the 47th over of the innings to send back Marco Jansen as the South African batter tried to clear the inner fielders with a lofted shot.

The ball, after it left the bat, seemed destined to comfortably sail over the boundary ropes for a six. But Abbott had other plans. Standing at sweeper cover, Abbott ran to his left and leaped at full stretch, and to everyone’s surprise and disbelief, took a one-handed catch. He even crashed onto the field but miraculously held onto the ball to make the catch count.

Such was the magnificence of the catch, that even Marco Jansen was left standing in disbelief as his hand unknowingly went up to his head before he walked back to the dressing room.

Fan understandably felt for Jansen while admiring Abbott’s effort. Diving and then catching is a different skill than catching and then diving.

Even Jensen was surprised… like how the hell this got caught…

Australia’s Dominance in the Series

Australia hold a 2-0 lead in the series, having won the first ODI by three wickets and then the second match by a mammoth 123 runs.

In the first match, Marnus Labuschagne spearheaded Australia to a comeback win over South Africa with the concussion substitute, along with Ashton Agar, calmly picking off the runs required in an unbeaten stand of 112 to lead Australia to a notable win by three wickets with nearly 10 overs to spare.

In the second match, quick-fire centuries by David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne set up yet another big win for Australia against South Africa. The Aussies racked up 392-8, their third-highest ODI total, and bowled out South Africa for 269 with 8.1 overs to spare.
