The Stree squad is back in the spotlight — this time off-screen, with Shraddha Kapoor and director Amar Kaushik sharing a playful moment that quickly stole attention online.
From Stree to Bhediya: The Journey So Far
Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe took off with Stree in 2018, where Shraddha Kapoor led the charge. Since then, she’s made appearances in Bhediya and reprised her mysterious role in last year’s Stree 2, a box office smash that raked in ₹597 crore.
In a recent interview, Amar Kaushik revealed that producer Dinesh Vijan once joked Shraddha laughs like a “chudail” (witch) — a comment that ended up influencing her casting in the spooky franchise. That remark, though made in jest, went viral and sparked mixed reactions online.
Laughs, Apologies, and Public Teasing
At Maddock Films’ star-studded 20th-anniversary celebration in Mumbai, Shraddha and Amar were seen posing together, putting any feud rumors to rest. The actress playfully nudged him in front of the paparazzi, saying, “Aaj kal yeh bahut jokes mar rahe hain,” teasing him for his recent interview antics.
Amar responded with a lighthearted gesture — holding his ears in mock apology, a move that made them both crack up on the red carpet. He admitted, “Mujhe darr lag raha hai. Sabse zyada aapke fans se darr lag raha hai,” referring to the online backlash from Shraddha’s devoted fanbase.
Shraddha kept it casual and chic in a white tee and blue jeans, unfazed by the drama and clearly in good spirits.
The Comment That Sparked It All
While speaking with film critic Komal Nahta, Amar credited Shraddha’s casting entirely to Dinesh Vijan. He recalled a conversation where Dinesh told him, “When she laughs, it’s just like Stree — like a chudail.” Amar admitted he wasn’t sure if Dinesh used the word “chudail” exactly, but that’s how he remembered it.
Despite the good-natured intentions, fans weren’t amused. Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disapproval, calling the comment tone-deaf. But with Shraddha taking it in stride and joining Amar in a moment of fun, it’s clear the two share mutual respect — and a sense of humor.
