Fans of the DC Universe have long dreamed of seeing Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman share the screen again—and James Gunn just made that future a little more real. While their much-anticipated crossover won’t happen in the next movie, Gunn has confirmed that the iconic trio will indeed team up down the line.

The DCU’s Superhero Trinity: A Future Crossover Confirmed

James Gunn, the director behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and now the architect of DC Studios, has been clear about his vision for the new DC Universe (DCU). Speaking with Deadline, Gunn said, “Of course, yeah!” when asked if Superman would eventually cross paths with Batman and Wonder Woman. But he also made it clear—it won’t be in the next film.

“You have to remember all this stuff is talks inside my head,” Gunn added. “So there’s a lot of chatter in my head that does a lot of things! But the DCU is chatter in my head, not talks!”

That said, it’s clear Gunn is playing a long game with the DCU, laying careful groundwork for major crossovers that could rival anything seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Who Will Play Wonder Woman and Batman in the New DCU?

Casting speculation is running wild, especially after Gunn praised actress Adria Arjona. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman,” he said in an interview with Extra. Gunn clarified that although he’s known Arjona for years, his recent Instagram follow of her was not a hidden casting hint—just a coincidence, according to him.

As for Batman, fans hoping for Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader to join the DCU’s core timeline may be disappointed. Gunn has already ruled out Pattinson’s version, noting it belongs to the Elseworlds series—separate from the mainline DCU. “The actor doesn’t exist [for Batman in the DCU yet],” Gunn recently told Variety, adding he’s still open to surprise appearances down the road.

What to Expect from the Upcoming Superman Film

Set to hit theaters on July 11, James Gunn’s Superman introduces David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, with Nicholas Hoult taking on the role of Lex Luthor. The film will also showcase beloved DC characters like Green Lantern (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi).

Corenswet recently told Esquire España that his involvement beyond this film remains uncertain. “It’s up to James Gunn,” he said. “He has a terrific imagination.”

Meanwhile, Gunn continues to stir curiosity, hinting that Superman may have already encountered Batman in the timeline—though in his usual cryptic style, he left fans guessing. “We don’t know if he’s already seen a man dressed up as a bat,” he teased. “But I think that he’d probably see a kindred spirit in that.”

For now, fans will have to wait patiently as the DCU builds its new foundation. But one thing is clear: the future of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman is brighter—and more connected—than ever before.
