Honda Recall 2025: What Drivers Need to Know About the Brake Pedal Issue
Honda is recalling more than 259,000 vehicles across the United States due to a serious brake pedal defect that could compromise driver safety. This recall impacts specific Honda and Acura models and stems from a production error that may prevent drivers from properly slowing down or stopping.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected models include:
- 2023–2025 Honda Pilot
- 2021–2025 Acura TLX
- 2023–2025 Acura MDX
At the heart of the issue is a brake pedal pivot pin that may not have been secured correctly during manufacturing. This flaw could cause the pedal to shift out of position, leading to unintended braking, a compromised feel during operation, or persistent illumination of the brake lights—even when the pedal isn’t pressed.
Brake Safety Concerns and Honda’s Response
Honda disclosed that roughly 1% of the recalled vehicles are believed to have the faulty brake pedal assembly. Notably, this defect could increase the risk of collisions, particularly in sudden braking situations. The automaker stated the issue may also trigger a warning light on the dashboard or cause unusual pedal resistance during use.
Although there have been no reports of injuries so far, Honda received three warranty claims related to this issue between February and early June 2024. The company began its investigation in April, after a customer reported brake malfunctions. The problem was traced back to a supplier’s U.S. facility that has since shut down. Production has since been shifted to a plant in Mexico, where new quality checks—such as camera sensors—have been added to ensure proper pin placement.
In response, Honda is offering a free inspection and, if necessary, a brake pedal assembly replacement through its network of authorized dealers. Dealer notifications started on June 13, 2025, and vehicle owners will begin receiving official recall letters by mail starting July 28, 2025.
How to Check if Your Honda or Acura Is Affected
Owners concerned about the recall can easily check their vehicle’s status by visiting the NHTSA recall lookup tool or Honda’s own recall information page. Entering the vehicle identification number (VIN) will confirm whether a specific vehicle is included in the recall.
For those driving a 2023 or newer Honda Pilot, or a 2021 or newer Acura TLX or MDX, it’s essential to take action promptly. Staying up to date on recall news and ensuring timely inspections can go a long way in keeping you—and others on the road—safe.
