Ashwin’s Tension with CSK Discussions on YouTube
Ravichandran Ashwin, the star India spinner currently playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, found himself in the middle of controversy on his YouTube channel recently. During a live video, Ashwin intervened to stop a panellist from discussing MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which led to a public promise to avoid covering CSK’s games going forward.
Controversial Remarks Spark Tension
The issue began when Rajamani Prabhu, a former strength and conditioning coach of Rajasthan Royals, was speaking about the importance of good leadership in cricket. While discussing the leadership qualities of players like Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, and MS Dhoni, Prabhu’s mention of Dhoni led to Ashwin expressing visible discomfort. Ashwin quickly stopped the discussion, urging the panellist to refrain from talking about his former team, CSK.
“No, you shouldn’t be the one talking. I can talk. I’m an audience member,” Prabhu responded, while Ashwin attempted to steer the conversation away from CSK, citing his promise to avoid discussing the team on his channel.
Ashwin’s Stand on CSK Discussions
Ashwin, who was part of Rajasthan Royals until IPL 2024, moved to CSK in the 2025 IPL mega auction. His reaction was partly influenced by a growing controversy surrounding CSK’s team selections, including a disagreement over the choice to pick Noor Ahmad despite having Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad. Following the uproar, Ashwin clarified that he would refrain from covering any CSK games, whether previews or reviews, for the remainder of IPL 2025.
This move came after Ashwin’s channel posted a note explaining the decision, acknowledging that the nature of recent discussions could easily be misinterpreted. As CSK prepares for their upcoming match against Mumbai Indians on April 20, the focus has shifted away from team analysis, as Ashwin has chosen to distance himself from the ongoing debates.
