New Zealand’s cricketing elite gathered for the 2025 New Zealand Cricket Awards — and two names stood out above the rest: Amelia Kerr and Matt Henry.
Amelia Kerr’s Historic Triple
For the third year in a row, Amelia Kerr took home the prestigious Debbie Hockley Medal, cementing her legacy as one of the sport’s top all-rounders. Her phenomenal 2024 campaign included a starring role in New Zealand’s Women’s T20 World Cup win, where she was named both Player of the Final and Player of the Tournament.
The accolades didn’t stop there. Kerr was crowned ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and ICC Women’s T20I Player of the Year. At home, she added three more awards to her shelf: Women’s ODI Player of the Year, Women’s T20I Player of the Year, and Super Smash Women’s Player of the Year — after racking up 441 runs and 15 wickets in the domestic tournament.
“Melie’s consistency, skill, and passion for the game are an inspiration to us all,” said cricket icon Debbie Hockley in tribute.
Matt Henry’s All-Format Excellence
Meanwhile, fast-bowler Matt Henry claimed the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal, following a season of dominant performances across all formats. He was also named Test Player of the Year after taking 25 wickets at an average of 20.08, including a stunning eight-wicket haul in Bengaluru that helped New Zealand secure a historic 3-0 sweep over India.
Henry’s impact continued in the white-ball arena, where he took 24 wickets at 15.50 to win the Men’s ODI Player of the Year — helping guide New Zealand to a runner-up finish in the 2025 Champions Trophy. His red-ball dominance also earned him the Winsor Cup for best men’s first-class bowler, thanks to 28 wickets at 21.5.
“Matt’s match-defining contributions in high-stakes matches underscored his status as the season’s most influential bowler,” noted the award judges.
More Standouts of the Season
New Zealand’s rise in T20Is was further marked by Jacob Duffy, who became the world’s top-ranked T20I bowler after grabbing 21 wickets at an astounding average of 9.71. He was named Men’s T20I Player of the Year.
Kane Williamson added to his legacy by securing the Redpath Cup for first-class batting, while other domestic standouts included Brett Hampton (Men’s Domestic Player of the Year), Eden Carson (Women’s Domestic Player of the Year and Phyl Blackler Cup), Tom Bruce (Super Smash Men’s Player of the Year), and Maddy Green (Ruth Martin Cup).
Veteran umpire Chris Gaffaney was also recognized, winning the GJ Gardner Homes Umpire of the Year award.
