The Maharashtra government has been making efforts to create seamless transportation for people in Mumbai. In order to achieve this goal, the Urban Development Department recently introduced an order, under which it stated to expand the Metro Line 2B.

As per the order, the concerned department will stretch the metro network from Mandale to Cheetah Camp, which is considered one of the densely populated low-lying areas near Trombay. The line will also pass through Bandra, SV Road, BKC, Kurla, Chembur, Mandale, and Mankhurd, providing a lot of needy commuters with a convenient means of transport.

Metro Line 2B will connect the Eastern Express Highway, Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Mono Rail, and Central Railway. Apart from this, it will also connect the Metro Line 1, which has 12 stations on the Ghatkopar to Versova route, Line 2A (from Dahisar to DN Nagar), Line 3 (Colaba to SEPZ), and Line 4 (from Wadala to Kasarvadavali).

The report says the metro extension project is expected to provide great relief to lakhs of commuters, allowing them to save a lot of time by providing the residents a great metro access to multiple areas.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the recently issued order was approved in October 2026, where it was planned to connect DN Nagar to Mandale at a cost of around Rs 10,896 crore.
