Residents of Thane and Mumbai awoke to heavy rainfall on a Saturday morning, bringing both inconvenience and relief. As most workplaces remain closed on the weekend, office-goers may encounter difficulties, while others welcome the respite from the sweltering weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain, for Thane and Palghar on Saturday, September 17. In addition, a ‘yellow’ alert has been issued for Mumbai until September 18, suggesting heavy rain at isolated locations. Starting from Sunday, September 18, Thane and Palghar have been placed under a ‘yellow’ alert. IMD officials have mentioned that these alerts could be upgraded if the situation demands it.
Throughout July-end, the intensity of rainfall had significantly reduced in the region, with Mumbai experiencing minimal precipitation, mostly in the form of drizzles. While the rain offers relief to many, it might not be welcomed by all, as the majority of Maharashtra’s residents are preparing to welcome Lord Ganesha into their homes on Monday as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm, and one of its main highlights is bringing Lord Ganesha’s idol home and subsequently immersing it in a nearby water body at the end of the 10-day festivities. The duration of the festival and the traditions followed can vary among families, with some opting for immersion after one and a half days, three, five, seven, or even eleven days.
When Are Lord Ganesha Idols Brought Home?
Abhijit Muhurta is considered the most auspicious time to bring Lord Ganpati home. This year, it falls on September 18, the day before the festivities officially commence. Ravi Yog, on September 19 (Tuesday), is when Lord Ganesha is traditionally welcomed into homes with a special puja ceremony. The auspicious time for Abhijit Muhurta on September 18 is from 11:51 pm to 12:40 pm. For Ravi Yog on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the ideal time is from 12:08 am to 6:08 am.
In addition to the Abhijit Muhurat, you can also invite Lord Ganpati to your house during the auspicious Choghadiya Muhurat.
